Health and Safety
- Humans have an inability to detect carbon monoxide (CO) by smell or taste. The cumulative effects of CO on the body and blood can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning. So tests are to be carried out in a highly ventilated area where the use of appropriate gas extraction equipment is required.
- Its important to note that pressuirised fuel can be sprayed out when components are being removed or replaced which could damage the eyes, skin and so on. There is also a potential fire hazard. And so, persons removing or replacing components should have the proper skill required.
- In case of fire, the correct fire extinguisher should be used for electrical components.
- When the engine is at working temperature the components can become quite hot and could cause serious burns to the skin if contact is made.
- It is necessary that all guards are in place before starting the engine and all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) worn e.g. overalls, safety boots etc.
- Fuel must be stored correctly avoiding all leaks and spillages as they could result in fire.
